‘Live the Adventure’ Open Day Old Vicarage Adventure Centre

Sunday 13 May 2012

It's the latest extreme sports craze to grip the nation - and now a Shopshire activity centre is offering visitors the chance to try "slacklining" for free at a special open day.

Enjoyed by celebrities such as Madonna, slacklining is a combination of tightrope walking and trampolining. Slackliners balance, walk and do tricks on a length of webbing suspended between two points, but the slackline is not tightened and becomes bouncy, making it harder to balance.

Sounds crazy? Well it is a bit, according to Anthony Eddies-Davies, owner of the Old Vicarage Adventure Centre in Stottesdon, near Bridgnorth.

"Slacklining is really taking off in the UK, after coming across from the USA," said Mr Eddies Davies.  "There's a real buzz about it, and we wanted to add it to the range of activities people already enjoy at the Old Vicarage Centre. We are sure it is going to be a real hit."

Slacklining is one of a range of outdoor pursuits which visitors to the centre can try free of charge at an open day on Sunday May 13 between 11am-4pm.  Other free taster sessions include climbing, pony riding, leap of faith, archery and jousting. Added to this is a special gymnastic demonstration in canoes on the centre's lake, and food and drink provided by the local pub The Fighting Cocks.

The Old Vicarage is well-known for its residential centre used by schools, but also hopes to raise awareness of its outdoor instructor academy and its bespoke travel company offering adventure, kayaking, rafting & trekking holidays in Bhutan, Nepal and the Grand Canyon.  In addition, it also houses the Country Treks Equestrian Centre run by Mr Eddies-Davies wife, Steph.

Mr Eddies Davies said: "Most people locally know us a residential centre for schools, but we are also open to the general public and businesses who can use our activities for recreation or team building.

"We are pulling all the different strands of the business under the banner "Live the Adventure" - we hope people will come along, see what's on offer and have a great day out living the adventure with us.  Alternatively they could have a look at what we do at www.livetheadventure.co.uk "
