The Royal Air Force Museum Cosford will be commemorating the Battle of Britain, considered the most important event in Royal Air Force history, with a nostalgic weekend of events and activities for the whole family to enjoy. A main highlight for visitors over the weekend will be a flypast from the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight Lancaster on Saturday 14th and a Spitfire flypast on Sunday 15th September 2013 (weather permitting).

A local National Trust property are turning back the clocks for the August Bank Holiday weekend at Dudmaston in order to remember Rachel, Lady Labouchere, the property’s last chatelaine’s birth and her uncle taking over the running of the estate.

The Apley Walled Gardens have recently been brought back into production for the first time in 50 years. They are now managed by our Head Gardener Phil Allen, who has started producing a large range of vegetables, many of which are unusual, old and interesting varieties.

Just eight short weeks have passed since the world’s last surviving Dornier Do 17 was salvaged from the bottom of the Dover Straits and delivered to the Royal Air Force Museum at Cosford, Shropshire, for conservation. Since its arrival, significant progress has been made in treating some of the aircrafts smaller components, several of which are now on display at the Museum. As the long process of conserving the airframe begins, we take a look at the work carried out to date.

The Royal Air Force Museum Cosford took delivery of the world’s last surviving Dornier Do 17 on Saturday 15th June, recently salvaged from the bottom of the English Channel. The fuselage and wings were escorted from Ramsgate, Kent, to the Museum by two low loader lorries.

Dress as a pirate or your favourite character from Robert Louis Stevenson’s famous novel, Treasure Island, and go along to Blists Hill Victorian Town in Shropshire’s Ironbridge Gorge over the summer weekend of Saturday 27th and Sunday 28th July. The open air museum is running a fun, literary themed event with actors recreating scenes from the popular maritime book of mutiny and buried treasure.

The Battle of Britain Memorial Flight Lancaster will be taking to the skies over Shropshire in honour of the thousands of National Service RAF veterans. This iconic aircraft will perform for visitors and guests at the National Service (RAF) Association parade, taking place at the Royal Air Force Museum Cosford on Sunday 2nd June 2013.

Ex England and Wolverhampton Wanderers Midfielder, Ron Flowers, will be visiting the Royal Air Force Museum Cosford to assist the Museum with their on-going project which examines the lives of footballers who served in the RAF, during and after the Second World War. Ron, now aged 79 will be visiting the Museum on Friday 10th May 2013 at 10.30am to meet with the Museum’s Access and Learning Team who are leading the research project.

Visitors to Live the Adventure will be offered the chance to try a new outdoor pursuit, a cross between surfing and canoeing, stand-up paddle boarding, at the centre's annual open day next month. The event will be held in aid of the Riding for the Disabled Association, on Sunday April 28 between 11am-4pm.

Telford & Wrekin’s Ironbridge Gorge has beaten off stiff competition to be the 2012 most highly recommended UNESCO World Heritage Site in the UK according to the TripAdvisor traveller community. It also takes second place in the world behind the Historic Ensemble of the Potala Palace, Lhasa, China and ahead of the Egyptian Pyramids and India’s Taj Mahal.
