CONSTRUCTION of the diesel maintenance depot which Severn Valley Railway diesel locomotive owners have sought for more than 20 years, is to go ahead at Kidderminster later this year, following approval of the Railway’s planning application by Wyre Forest District Council.

Visitors to Live the Adventure will be offered the chance to try a new outdoor pursuit, a cross between surfing and canoeing, stand-up paddle boarding, at the centre's annual open day next month. The event will be held in aid of the Riding for the Disabled Association, on Sunday April 28 between 11am-4pm.

THE SEVERN Valley Railway raises the curtain on its 43rd season of operation on Friday with its three-day 'Spring Steam Gala' spectacular - and once again it is the line-up of beautifully restored 'guest celebrity' steam locomotives which are expected to draw in the big crowds.

WORKING through some of the rawest days of the winter, in sub-zero temperatures and in snow, a team of volunteers has saved the Severn Valley Railway around £40,000 by taking on specialist repair work on the line’s iconic Victoria Bridge, instead of tendering the work out to contractors.

300 tickets for the popular aviation enthusiasts' event 'Open Cockpits Evening' at the Royal Air Force Museum Cosford, will go on sale from Monday 18th February through the Royal Air Force Museum’s website. This exclusive evening will commence at 6pm on Saturday 18th May with a wide range of aircraft available for close viewing on the night: including transport aircraft, jet fighters and unique research airframes.

Telford & Wrekin’s Ironbridge Gorge has beaten off stiff competition to be the 2012 most highly recommended UNESCO World Heritage Site in the UK according to the TripAdvisor traveller community. It also takes second place in the world behind the Historic Ensemble of the Potala Palace, Lhasa, China and ahead of the Egyptian Pyramids and India’s Taj Mahal.

Popular TV Presenter James May took a flight in a WW1 tri plane and battled in a thrilling mid-air combat yesterday, when he took a ride in the RAF Museum Cosford’s exciting new 4D Experience. James was joined on the ride by three lucky competition winners along with their friends and family as they took their seats on board the Museum’s latest exhibit.

The Royal Air Force Museum Cosford will be turning back the clocks 70 years this October as they hold their annual 1940’s Hangar Dance. Tickets for the popular event, taking place at the Museum on Saturday 13th October have now gone on sale. This summer holiday, the Royal Air Force Museum Cosford has created a range of new and exciting interactive ‘August Activities’ that will get families working together and having fun. Each week throughout August will have an exciting activity dedicated to it. These creative and fun workshops will run from 1st to 31st August and all materials for these hands-on sessions will be provided by the Museum. Workshops will run from 11.00am-12.30pm and 2.00pm-3.30pm.
