Shopping in Bridgnorth

Bridgnorth's atmospheric open-air markets attract shoppers from far and wide. Each Saturday the High Street and Meredith's Yard are filled with colourful awnings as traders sell everything from fresh fish to lawnmowers. Beneath the arches of the town hall, local people set out their stalls each Friday, Saturday and Sunday, offering plants, preserves and produce, cakes, flowers and crafts.

An abundance of fresh fruit, vegetables, quality meat and game in season all feature extensively on local menus, and there is also a great selection of real ales from Shropshire breweries. The flourishing vineyard at Halfpenny Green, produces white, red and rosé wines of excellent character.

Much Wenlock also holds a market under the ancient Guildhall on Thursday mornings.

Food, Markets, Crafts & Antiques

Bridgnorth is proud to be Shropshire's First Fairtrade Town and Fairtrade products are available at a number of shops, cafes and restaurants as well as being used by many local businesses and organisations.

Dozens of professional painters, potters, sculptors and carvers draw their inspiration from the stunning beauty of this part of Shropshire and their work can be seen in many of the local galleries.

If past times are your pastime you'll spend many a happy hour bargain hunting in the district's wealth of antique shops. Bridgnorth alone has two impressive emporia, between them offering thousands of square feet packed with well-presented, quality items. There are smaller, individual shops tucked away down sidestreets where enthusiasts can browse to their hearts' content, and regular antique auctions take place throughout the year at two specialist venues in the town.

There are antique shops around every corner as well as two emporia in Bridgnorth where antiques to suit every taste and pocket can be found.
