Whole host of Easter fun at The SVR

Whole host of Easter fun at The SVR
Exciting exhibitions, colourful competitions and thrilling steam train journeys - the Severn Valley Railway is well and truly on track for a fun-packed Easter.

The Railway's fleet of heritage locomotives will be in full steam throughout the holidays, from March 28th - April 12th, for visitors to enjoy an exciting journey along the Railway’s 16-mile span from Kidderminster to Bridgnorth, and admire the views of the Severn Valley in full Springtime bloom.

All of the Railway's six, beautifully-restored stations will be open for passengers to visit along the line, offering opportunities to explore anything from the Kidderminster Railway Museum and the Severn Valley Country Park to Bridgnorth's High and Low town.

A must-see this Easter is the brand new SVR 50th Anniversary exhibition, the star attraction at The Engine House Visitor Centre at Highley.

The exhibition features a giant anniversary timeline, telling the story of the first 50 years of the Railway in words and pictures, featuring landmark events and momentous occasions along the way, including the very first meeting of the SVR founding members, the infamous 2007 floods, and the very first steam engines to arrive on the line.

Visitors can even add their own contribution in the special visitors book, which will be on display throughout the year.

Creative children can pick up a free pack of crayons and Easter activity sheet and enter the SVR quiz and ‘Design us a Birthday Card’ competition, with some great prizes on offer.

The winning card design will be made into the Railway's official birthday card, to be presented to management on July 6th, the actual 50th anniversary of the founding of The SVR.  It will also be displayed, along with a selection of the other entries, on the SVR website and Facebook pages.

As well as the headline exhibition, there's far more to explore at The Engine House Visitor Centre - there's mail to be sorted in the Travelling Post Office an outdoor, railway-themed play area to be tackled and lots more interactive exhibits to enjoy.

Clare Gibbard, the SVR's marketing and communications manager, said: "This Easter should be extra special for us, it being our Golden Jubilee year.

"Our anniversary exhibition is a must-see and should prove a real draw for visitors - this alongside an intensive service of steam trains and our fun Easter quiz and Design a Birthday Card competition means there is something for all the family."

The SVR is running a jam-packed schedule of events this year, including new additions like Sounds of the 60s in August, as well as a special Golden Ticket competition, launching at the end of the month.
