SVR'S SPRING STEAM GALA IS HUGE SUCCESS

SVR'S SPRING STEAM GALA IS HUGE SUCCESS in
Nearly 4,000 visitors flocked to the Severn Valley Railway (SVR) as it celebrated its 20th century roots during the annual Spring Steam Gala.

The authentically themed ‘Great Western’ event took place between Friday, 21st and Sunday, 23rd March 2014 and welcomed just over 3,900 enthusiasts – up nearly 1,700 on last year due to 2013’s unseasonably heavy snowfall – from across the country to experience ‘the good old days’ of steam train travel.

Clare Gibbard, the SVR’s marketing and communications manager, said: “It was wonderful to see the Railway revisit its roots with the classic and much loved Great Western branch-line theme. This recreation of the good old days obviously proved incredibly popular with our visitors! The SVR’s Galas are organised and delivered by a very devoted team of volunteers – the numbers this year are credit to their hard work.”
