See Out the Festive Season at the Severn Valley Railway
19th December 2013
Blow away the cobwebs and let off some steam as you hop on and off at stations along the line and enjoy the scenic Severn Valley. Alight at Highley to explore the Engine House Visitor Centre, home to an impressive collection of reserve locomotives, majestic Royal Carriage and array of interactive exhibits.
To mark the 50th anniversary of the Great Train Robbery, The Engine House is currently hosting an exhibition which includes an original Royal Mail Travelling Post Office (TPO) carriage, identical to the one involved in the Great Train Robbery. Visitors can explore the inside of the vehicle on display, read all about the infamous crime and have fun sorting letters just like staff would have done in 1963.
Children can also take part in the 12 Days of Christmas Quiz for the chance to win some top prizes including an Annual Family Pass. The Engine House also boasts a gift shop, restaurant and children’s outdoor railway themed play area.
Clare Gibbard, the SVR’s marketing and communications manager, said: “A trip on the Severn Valley Railway is an ideal way to entertain the whole family during the holiday period. Our steam heated carriages and Engine House Visitor Centre makes us an all-weather attraction - the Severn Valley is most beautiful on a crisp cold day.
“There’s no need to book for any of our Festive Season Services, and entry to The Engine House is free with a ‘Freedom of the Line’ ticket or Annual Family Pass so it’s great value too.”
