It's all gone apple-shaped at Dudmaston

It's all gone apple-shaped at Dudmaston
It’s harvest time and the National Trust’s Dudmaston Estate will be celebrating their bumper apple harvest this Sunday 27th September 2013 with their annual Orchard Day event.

Gates to the property will open at 11am and there is lots planned for visitors to see. Volunteers from across the South Shropshire portfolio will be on the property for the day pressing apples and visitors who would like to see their own apples pressed are invited to bring these along so that they can take their own freshly squeezed juice home. Visitors can also take part in the property’s very first produce show, entries are 50p and for this visitors can enter as many of the categories as they like. All the property asks is that visitors notify them that they are intending to enter as soon as possible before the day.

As well as this there will be Morris Dancing; apple printing for the children; an apple recipe tree for everyone to share their favourite apple recipes, apple sales and food producers so that everyone will get the chance to take home a tasty treat and lots of extra fun.

Assistant Gardener, Mark McCormack said “this is an important day in the gardeners calendar. We have had a bumper crop of apples this year and are looking forward to enjoying this success with all our visitors. We have been very creative with our categories for the produce show so that there is something for everyone. Even if you’re not a vegetable grower, why not take part by creating an applehead? We are really looking forward to seeing just how many different entries we get on the day.”

For more information about the categories you can enter in the produce show and about Orchard Day itself take at look at the property’s website www.nationaltrust.org.uk/dudmaston.
