Hop & Stagger Brewery create an Apley Gamekeeper Pale [beer]

Hop & Stagger Brewery create an Apley Gamekeeper Pale [beer]
Husband & wife, Bob & Sam Hayes of the Hop & Stagger Brewery have recently moved into renovated farm buildings on the Apley Estate, very close to Apley Farm Shop where they’re selling their beers, including their newly created Apley label, Apley Gamekeeper Pale.

Having been brewing in West Castle Street in Bridgnorth since January 2012, the business has expanded & they needed more space.

Bob and Sam had been working long & hard to turn their pub, The White Lion in Bridgnorth, into a homely, comfortable & friendly place. They sold great real ale & managed to get the pub into CAMRA’s Good Beer Guide 6 times!

But they were not happy & couldn’t rest until they could brew their own beer on the premises. They travelled far & wide in search of knowledge & eventually the ‘Hop & Stagger Brewery’ was born. Now in 2015, with the success at the pub & the local demand for their beers, they have commissioned a new Brewery at Astol Farm near Apley Farm Shop.

They use local ingredients wherever possible, with their hops coming from ‘The Hopshires’ - Shropshire, Herefordshire & Worcestershire. They make 5 different regular types of beers plus seasonal specials, distinguished one from the other by the varieties of hops & malt used & the brewing process. They also produce 4 bottled beers. Their newest being ‘Apley Gamekeeper Pale’.

It's very much a family run business headed by husband & wife, Bob & Sam Hayes, along with Bob’s brother Pete. Their young sons Alex & Ben help with events & bottling the beer. Bob said “It’s hard work, but immensely rewarding when you watch someone enjoying a pint of beer designed & brewed by us”.

‘It is wonderful that we have found a good use for the buildings at Astol Farm, especially one which compliments or local food offer at Apley Farm Shop’ commented Lord Gavin Hamilton, owner of Apley ‘we are renovating the Astol farm buildings in stages & any other interested tenants should contact Apley Estate.’
