Gorgeous Shropshire Christmas Craft Fair
26th August 2014
Gorgeous will see skilled local craftspeople and artisans from across Shropshire and the West Midlands gathering to showcase a whole variety of handmade designs and one of a kind gifts.
In the festively decked hall and spilling out into the adjacent courtyard, exhibitors will be selling beautiful and unusual pieces of jewellery, glassware, ceramics, textiles and metal work, as well as hand-made wrapping paper, cards and crackers.
Some of the very best of the county’s renowned food producers will also be available, with highlights including delicious preserves from Heather’s Harvest, cakes and meringues from the Little Round Cake Company and spicy treats from Chilli Zoo.
Gorgeous is a celebration of creative skills, with exhibitors showcasing their expertise through talks and demonstrations. During the weekend visitors will be able watch demonstrations by Katherine Edge, who hand paints designs on silk; Ed Brown, maker of garden stoneware pottery and porcelain jewellery, and textile art and accessories designer Stevie Walker.
Now in its tenth year, Gorgeous is held in association with the Shropshire Guild of Contemporary Craft, which promotes the work of designers and craftsmen in the region, many of whom enjoy status as internationally recognised artists.
Young visitors can also get into the creative spirit by taking part in pewter casting workshops or laser cutting small Christmas tree decorations in Enginuity’s Fab Lab (activities cost from £2.50 per activity, plus admission).
The fair builds on Ironbridge Gorge’s rich heritage of creativity; the place where early industrialists mined for raw materials to make iron, tiles and porcelain goods, many of which are still produced and displayed at the museum sites today.
Entry is £2.50 per person (under 5s go free), which includes admission to Enginuity. The fair will be open from 10am – 5pm on Saturday 22nd and Sunday 23rd November.
For further information, contact the Ironbridge Visitor Information Centre on Tel: 01952 433 424 or visit www.ironbridge.org.uk. The Gorge is easily reached via the M6 and M54 motorways exiting at Telford (M54 junction 4 or 6).
