Apley Farm Shop Project on Top Award List

Apley Farm Shop Project on Top Award List
The Apley Farm Shop project just outside Bridgnorth has been shortlisted for the 2012 West Midlands Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors Awards.

The awards showcase the region’s major design projects and spotlight the most inspirational regional initiatives and developments in terms of land, property, construction and the environment.

“We are absolutely delighted to have been shortlisted for this major RICS award,” said Apley Estate owner Lord Gavin Hamilton, who masterminded the building and development of the Apley Farm Shop complex.

“The nominations in each category for the award span a range of companies and projects, from small schemes achieved by the vision of one person to globally recognised developments with significant budgets.

“The conversion of the Victorian barns at Apley from derelict farm buildings to a vibrant shop specialising in local food, a café and indoor playbarn for children really impressed the judges who inspected the site with me and Apley Estate manager Graeme Manton.

“They were particularly impressed with the realised objective of employing local people and bringing the Apley Estate back to life as a key employer and part of the rural economy.

“The environmental sustainability of the business, including a wood fuel boiler, excellent insulation as well as the low food miles and employment of local people, also pleased the judges.”

Carol Boyd from RICS added: “Both the standard and volume of entrants for this award were extremely high this year and we congratulate Apley Farm Shop on being shortlisted.”

The awards ceremony will take place on May 4 at Edgbaston. The awards will be presented by TV sports presenter Mary Rhodes.
