Apley Apples at Activ8
25th September 2014
Activ8, a provider of in-school, after-school & school holiday sports activities has teamed up with Apley Farm Shop to help teach children healthy eating habits which compliment the sport training they receive from Activ8. .
Owner of Apley Farm Shop, Lord Hamilton explained, “September’s harvest time is a great time of year to begin an initiative like this. English apples are fresh off the trees right now & at Apley, we focus on fresh, local & seasonal food. At Apley, we have plenty of apples and organize various children’s activities in Pigg’s Playbarn, so it’s a great project for us to be involved with.”
Apley is currently stocking several heritage and unusual varieties of apples from trees around the Estate including Kidds O’Red, Fiesta, Discovery, Granny Smith, Cox’s Orange, Queen Cox, plus some Concorde pears.
Dan Wilson of Activ8 added “We work with seven primary schools in the area including St Andrew’s School Shifnal, Redhill Primary School & numerous other schools in the Telford and Newport area. I’m sure the parents & childcarers will appreciate seeing their children come home with Apley’s apples.”
One of Dan’s pupils expressed how much he enjoys the classes “I love football, especially with Dan & I love my apple at home time as I’m always hungry then.“
Having been setup only earlier this year, this is the first initiative of this kind in which Activ8 have been involved. They are running October half term classes for 4-12 yrs in Shifnal & Newport – soccer schools & multi sports courses.
Lady Hamilton, Apley Marketing Manager added “Healthy eating & getting children playing more sport are both in line with government guidelines to get children fit & healthy, producing better results at school overall - so we’re glad to be playing our part in that.”
