A double award triumph for the Ironbridge Gorge Museums

A double award triumph for the Ironbridge Gorge Museums
Staff at the Ironbridge Gorge Museum Trust are celebrating after picking up awards at two different ceremonies in one evening.

The successful day started with a win at the prestigious national Green Tourism Business Scheme Awards in Manchester when the ‘Gold Star Green Tourism Award in Museums’ was awarded to the Trust by the judges.

The annual Green Tourism Awards were created to honour those businesses and organisations that have done the most to promote sustainability within the industry, by implementing cost-saving practices that help the environment and improve customer service.

Later on in the evening the Museum triumphed in the Shropshire Star Spotlight Awards at a glittering ceremony at the Buttermarket in Shrewsbury. The categories in the Spotlight Awards are voted for by readers’ of the popular newspaper and included Best Tearoom, Best Evening Out and Best Pub Grub. The Museum beat off stiff competition from RAF Museum Cosford and Hawkstone Park and Follies to lift the ‘Best Family Day Out – Large Venue Award’.

Anna Brennand, Chief Executive of the Ironbridge Gorge Museum Trust said: “We are thrilled to have won these two awards. It is testament to the hard-work and enthusiasm of our staff, volunteers and trustees that we are recognised as leading the way in green tourism. It’s always wonderful to win an award that’s voted for by the public so we’re especially pleased that Shropshire Star readers have declared us their favourite day out.”
