Wet and getting wetter - but SVR passengers beat the monsoons

IT WAS the wettest June since records began, and ten days in, it looks as though July is making its own bid for an all-time rainfall record too. But the sun is shining on the Severn Valley Railway just now, for despite the monsoon weather, visitor figures and passenger numbers are actually holding up ahead of budget.


Ironbridge Gorge Museums join the London 2012 Festival - VIP Opening

Ruth Mackenzie, Director of the London 2012 Festival and Alan Davey, Chief Executive of Arts Council England were the guests of honour at the VIP opening of a unique, international art work in a former engine shed at Enginuity, one of the 10 Ironbridge Gorge Museums, in Shropshire’s Ironbridge Gorge World Heritage Site.

Open Cockpits tickets on sale from 2nd July

Tickets for the ever popular ‘Open Cockpits Evening’ at the Royal Air Force Museum Cosford will go on sale from Monday 2nd July at the Museum. This exclusive evening will commence at 6pm on Saturday 22nd September with a wide range of aircraft available for close viewing on the night: including transport aircraft, jet fighters and unique research airframes.


Fundraisers ride out to save lives

Bikers from across the Midlands are expected to show their support for one of the regions most imperative charities as they take part in the ‘Bike 4 Life Summer Run’ in aid of Midlands Air Ambulance. In collaboration with the Royal Air Force Museum, organisers have planned a unique and feel good day aiming to get people out on their bikes and having fun, whilst raising money for two great charities.

The Royal Air Force Museum was delighted to be crowed winners of the ‘Apprentice of the Year’ category at the Shropshire Business Awards 2012. Held at The International Centre, Telford on Friday 15th June, the Museum’s Conservation Centre Deputy Manager Darren Priday and Apprentice Nathan Pugh attended as finalists in the ‘Apprentice of the Year’ category.


‘Air raids’ return to SVR’s 1940s Weekends - by public demand!

IN WARTIME, the heavy drone of large formations of Luftwaffe bombers and the sound of bombs exploding struck dread into British hearts. But a decision to drop the simulated ‘Luftwaffe air raids’ from the Severn Valley Railway’s 1940s re-enactment weekends’ last year brought complaints from visitors - so they’re being brought back!


SVR ‘one of England’s top three tourism experiences’

IT’S OFFICIAL - the Severn Valley Railway is one of the top three tourism experiences in England! The 16-mile Kidderminster-to-Bridgnorth steam heritage line which attracts up to a quarter of a million visitors each year, has landed the Bronze medal in the ‘Tourism Experience of the Year’ category of the English Tourist Board’s 2012 ‘Visit England’ Awards.

EVERY morning for the past two weeks, the steam engine which has run from the Severn Valley Railway’s locomotive depot at Bewdley, to Kidderminster, to work the first passenger train of the day from the railway’s southern terminus, has been taking an unusually long time to get there. And the reason is, ‘the elephant stop.’

Bikers raise thousands of pounds for local charity

Almost 1,000 bikers from across the Midlands took part in the Bike 4 Life Easter Run last weekend in aid of two local charities. Raising money for the Midlands Air Ambulance and Royal Air Force Museum, bikers travelled on mass from Shrewsbury Meole Brace park and ride along the M54 to the Royal Air Force Museum Cosford.
