New interpretation panels installed at Stanmore Country Park to tell the Hidden Heritage of the former RAF Base.

Thanks to a grant from the Tesco Bags of Help Scheme, the Friends of Stanmore Country Park have teamed up with Shropshire Council’s Outdoor Partnerships Team, a local graphics company and a local historian to design and install new interpretation panels in the Country Park.

Hotbuckle Productions will be coming to Blists Hill Victorian Town, near Ironbridge on Father’s Day, Sunday, 18th June with their own inspired adaptation of Thomas Hardy’s classic novel, Far from the Madding Crowd, telling the story with humour and emotion. To celebrate dad’s special day, Hotbuckle are giving free tickets to any father who is accompanied by another full paying adult. Suitable for all the family, the outdoor evening performance starts at 6pm.

Museum aircraft join Air Show line-up

A collection of aircraft from the Royal Air Force Museum Cosford will be joining the line-up in a static display at the RAF Cosford Air Show, taking place on Sunday 11 June 2017. Aircraft confirmed to appear include the British Aerospace Experimental Aircraft Programme (EAP), the BAe Harrier GR9A and completing the Museum’s display at this year’s show is the Hawker Hurricane IIc.

Dipping pond in historic walled garden is exposed after 60 years

One of the two dipping ponds of Apley Walled Garden has been recently exposed ready for re-use, 60 years after it was last used. So called as gardeners would dip their watering cans into it, the pair of dipping ponds gradually fell out of use, as the watering relied increasingly on piped water.

Apley cheese wins gold - 60 years after its first award

The Apley cheese has just won a gold award at the Artisan Cheese Awards. Lady Hamilton, Marketing Manager of Apley Farm Shop, explained, “At Apley Farm Shop, we’re all incredibly proud & excited, but it's really Martin & Beth Moyden who are the proudest. The cheese won a similar award when it was first made in the building which is now the Creamery Café, 1956-65. So it is extra special to see it win again, over 50 years later, this time made by Mr Moyden near Market Drayton in Shropshire.”


Morville Hall will be open to visitors on selected Fridays and Saturdays throughout the summer.

Marathon men raise £100k to commemorate 100 years of the RAF

Two trustees of the RAF Museum are pulling on their walking boots to tackle the equivalent of five marathons in five days (8-12 May 2017) to raise £100,000 to commemorate the RAF’s centenary in 2018.


Meccano Marvels Come to Ironbridge

An amazing display of working Meccano models created by Telford and Ironbridge Meccano Society (TIMS), Shropshire will be an extra bonus for anyone visiting Enginuity, one of the ten Ironbridge Gorge Museums, over the May Day Bank Holiday weekend from Saturday 29th April to Monday 1st May. The mechanical marvels will be on display as part of the Ironbridge Gorge Museum’s 50th anniversary celebrations.
