The Countryside

Bridgnorth Countryside

The rural nature of the Bridgnorth area means that lovers of the great outdoors will find plenty of outlets for country pursuits.  Walking, cycling, angling, canoeing, horse riding and golf can all be enjoyed.

For walkers, a lengthy section of the Severn Way long distance footpath passes along the river valley.  You can tackle the Jack Mytton bridlepath on foot, horseback or bicycle, and there are hundreds of waymarked paths, woodland walks, bridleways and tracks to cater for every range of ability.

The limestone escarpment of Wenlock Edge and the Clee Hills provide extraordinarily beautiful wide open spaces for the whole family to enjoy.  A newly opened cycle route, the Mercian Way, goes through the beautiful Wyre Forest, and on to the Severn Valley Country Park near Bridgnorth. An extension to the route is due to open soon. There are Visitor Centres at the Country Park and in the Wyre Forest.

Fishing in Bridgnorth

Anglers will find an embarrassment of riches.  The Severn is stocked with a variety of coarse fish, and there are fishing pools galore.  And if fishing doesn't float your boat, you can take a Canadian canoe trip along the river, combined with a steam train ride and a pub lunch or picnic.
