The Halfway House Inn - Caravan and Camping
Accommodation in Bridgnorth, Shropshire
Touring caravan and camping park set in the stunningly beautiful Shropshire countryside, adjacent to family run 17th century coaching inn. Activity & sporting holidays available.
Centrally situated in the West Midlands, close to the River Severn, The Halfway House is less than 30 miles from the centre of Birmingham and within a 30 minute drive of historic Shrewsbury, Ludlow, Wenlock Edge, the Longmynd National Park and the Black Country Conurbation. Many National Trust properties, Castles, the West Midlands Safari Park, the Aerospace Museum at RAF Cosford and especially the Ironbridge Gorge Museums are even closer which means that little of your precious time is spent in the car. The answer to the proverbial children's question of "are we nearly there mum?" is always a truthful "yes".
The Halfway House Inn is a 3 Star AA 16th Century Inn and was first licensed in 1620, although built 30 to 50 years earlier. It was originally known as the Old Red Lion Inn. But this was changed to The Halfway House following a visit by Princess Victoria in 1823. Whilst on a stop to change horses, en route from Pitchford Hall to Great Whitley Court, she asked where she was. The reply was given "halfway there m'aam" and, since that date, the Inn has been known by its present name. The oldest part of the building boasts a wonderful example of an Elizabethan wall mural that has been preserved behind glass for all to see.
Peter and Cecile Williams bought the Halfway House in 1997 & completed 40 years in the licensed trade in July 2005. They have always been well known for both the quality and quantity of their fresh locally sourced food, starting with a "Full Monty" English breakfast, and followed by a bar and dinner menu available from 5pm every day. The Inn is open all day on Fridays and Saturdays but closes around 6pm on Sundays, except on Bank Holiday weekends.
Next to the Halfway House is a 10-berth caravan park that is open all year round, with prices from £18 per night. This includes 24 hour access to the toilets, fresh drinking water, electricity hook-up and 24 hour use of the toilets and showers. There are no extra charges for awnings, pets, and even mother-in-laws. There is also a small space for tents at £8 per person per night with children under 12 £4. Electrical hook ups £3 per night extra.
